New Technical Manager for QLIF

Since October 2005 QLIF has a new technical manager, Dr. Lorna Lueck who is stationed at the University of Newcastle.
Within the last few months Lorna has familiarized herself with the organisational structure of QLIF and taken over some responsibilities in the technical management. |

One of her main tasks is to collate and submit the reports and implementation plans to the EC. So, within the coming months she will interact with all QLIF partners in preparation of the next annual report and 18 month implementation plan.
In the future she will also take over the responsibilities of managing subproject 2 and has agreed to coordinate the corresponding theme in the upcoming conference.
Lorna received her MS and Ph.D. in crop science in Germany at the Humboldt University of Berlin and worked for two years as post doc at the University of Massachusetts in the field of medicinal plants. Lorna has practical experience in organic agriculture and a solid background in plant science research. Since 2004 she has been working in the UK managing different types of EU projects. QLIF is the third EU project and the first integrated project that she is managing |
Open doors at Agroscope Liebefeld-Posieux

7000 visitors took the opportunity to visit Agroscope Liebefeld Posieux (ALP), the Swiss federal research station for animal production and dairy products, on its days of the open doors (September 16th to 18th 2005). |
ALP presented information about the research being done over the entire chain of animal production from pasture to plate. Presentations were given on topics from animal feed to production and processing of foods from animal origin as meat, milk and honey.
During the days of the open doors work carried out at ALP within the workpackage 5.3 of EU-QLIF ‘Assessment of processing technologies which may improve the nutritional composition of dairy products’ was presented in German (see pdf-1) and French (see pdf-2).
Effect of management practice on lettuce quality
First results of WP3.4.1 were presented at the First Scientific Conference of the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR) in Adelaide, 21.-23. September 2005.
The workpackage WP3.4.1 is investigating the effect of different agronomic management practices on lettuce quality including the risk of enteric pathogens.
